Focke, Wilhelm H. 1878 – Bremen – 1974. young man with saddle. Probably about 1910/20. Oil/hard fiber, unsigned, 77 x 61.5 cm, framed 84 x 68 cm.- Cf. a similar painting from 1908 in Hadré, Focke, p. 184.- For Focke the nude was the basis of all fine art and a cipher for real life. He liked to paint and draw friends and acquaintances in the great outdoors, also especially associated with the horses he loved so much. Cited in Hadré, Focke, p. 15.
