Smidt, Emil Leonhard. 1878 – Hamburg – 1954. in the park of the Villa Borghese in Rome. 1911. oil/plywood, signed lower right, dated a. place-named Smidt 1911 Rome, verso inscribed E Smidt Hbg Rom Im Park Umberto morgens (Sonne), 16 x 18,5 cm, framed 30 x 31,5 cm…- Smidt, co-founder of the Hamburg Secession, studied at the Munich and Stuttgart Academies with H. von Zügel and R. Poetzelberger and took courses at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1906-1908. In 1911 he undertook a study trip to Italy, during which the present painting was created.
