Ritual sword or lodge sword of the Knights of Pythias fraternity, USA late 19th century. Steel blade with rich etched decoration and the wearer’s name “R. Rottnagel”. Black leather grip with wire winding, guard and pommel sculpted with griffins and knight’s helmet. On the quillons “FCB” (= Friendship, Charitiy and Benevolence), guard flap with “U R” (= Uniformed Rank). Iron scabbard with figurative brass mountings. Overall very high quality manufacture. Total length 93 cm
