Josef Abel (1764-1818), Austrian history painter, studied under von Zauner and Füger at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1792, in 1794 he was awarded the Academy’s gold medal for his work ”Daedalus and Icarus”. Kneeling Cupid with entourage, firing his arrow at the viewer, oil on canvas, signed and Roman dated ”I.Abel pinx. 1812”, craquelure, minimally bumped, 67 x 52 cm, in the original frame of the time (bumped) 87 x 71 cm
