Kazimierz Alchimowicz (1840-1916), Sheherazade telling a story, 1902, oil/canvas, doubled, canvas inscribed on verso in Polish Composed and begun by Prof. Wojciech Gerson and completed in 1902 by Kazimierz Alchimowiez [Skomponwany i zaczety pzez s. p. Prof. Wojciecha Gersona a dokonczony przezb Kazimierza Alchimowieza w roku 1902], remains of a Warsaw exhibition label on verso of stretcher, 93.5 x 62.5 cm, framed 109.5 x 76 cm, the renowned Polish painter Wojchiech Gerson (1831-1901) was a professor at the Warsaw Academy of Art from 1872-1896 and at the St. Petersburg Academy of Art from 1878. He influenced a whole generation of neo-romantic Polish genre and landscape painters during the Russian occupation. Among his students from 1869 was Casimir Alchimowicz, who is considered one of the last Romantics of Polish painting.
