Pair of very large satsuma crane neck vases(jap. tsurukubi), Japan, Meiji period(1868-1912), late 19th c., ivory porcelain with glaze painting, enamel and gold color in the shape of monumental Japanese sake bottle with spherical body, very long neck and trumpet-shaped protruding mouth, magnificent decoration of diamond, turtle shell, tendril and chrysanthemum head patterns in numerous geometric cartouches, on the neck huge iridescent butterflies, the main picture field of the body shows fighting samurai and a command scene in snowy landscape, all scenes mirrored on the other vase, one vase signed with serial number ”go”(=5), 58x24cm
