Magnificent vase, KPM Berlin, Pfennig mark 1849-1870, 1st choice, red imperial orb mark, Sog. Renaissance handle vase, designed by Julius Wilhelm Mantel around 1860, ovoid form on a round foot ending in four volutes, the side handles in the form of sphinxes in white bisque, the front with a wide, gold-etched pictorial reserve, crowned by the laurel-wreathed imperial crown. Photo portrait of Empress Augusta (Augusta Marie Luise Katharina von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Empress Augusta, Queen Augusta of Prussia, 30.09 1811 in Weimar – 7.1. 1890 in Berlin), turquoise blue ground, ornamental gilding, restored foot, h. 45 cm, Such magnificent vases with the portrait framed by laurel branches and crowned by the imperial crown were reserved for the Prussian court and were made by order of Wilhelm I of Prussia as personal gifts to ”emperor-loyal” personalities.
