Wilhelm Focke (1878-1974), an artist working in Bremen, studied at the art academies in Düsseldorf, Munich and Weimar under Ludwig von Hofmann and in Berlin under Arthur Kampf. He cherished friendships with Max Liebermann, Oskar Kokoschka, Max Slevogt and Hans Thoma. Eisfischer, impressionistic depiction of people on frozen water, oil on canvas, lower left monogr. and indistinctly dated, verso the estate stamp, canvas not stretched on stretcher, somewhat wavy and with marginal defects, 43 x 65 cm
