Vase, Paris, France, 19th c., signed, Narcisse Vivien, a cardinal bird on a flowering fruit branch, on silver background, ornamental gilding, rubbed, h. 24,5 cm, similar copies were created and exhibited for the World’s Fair of 1878, very much in signs of Japonism of that time. Narcisse Vivien, an animal painter specializing in birds and a professor at the Ecole de Bernard Palissy, was active between 1875 and 1900. Some of his vases with birds on platinum background were exhibited at the 1878 World’s Fair in Paris. He also participated in the Salon des Artistes français in 1886.
