Satsuma vase, Japan c. 1900 (Meiji). Bellied body with slightly retracted neck and flared lip rim. Ring handles on elephant heads. Divided into 2 large, curved reserves with very fine landscape painting and figural staffage. The sturdy foot ring with a lotus tendril on a brown ground. Marks written under the base in iron red and cobalt blue, restored, h. 36.5 cm
