A view cup with a burning playhouse on a saucer, KPM Berlin, marks c. 1820-40, 1st choice, Calathos form with campanile handle, the front with polychrome fine painting in gold-framed reserve, inscribed ”Den 29sten July 1817” underneath, gilt decoration, rubbed, retouched, h. 10 cm – Carl Gotthard Langhans’ building on Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt, opened in 1802, burnt down completely in July 1817. In November 1817, King Friedrich Wilhelm III commissioned Karl Friedrich Schinkel to rebuild it.
