Pair of sconces Second Empire, probably France, 19th c., bronze gilded with set porcelain plaque in Wedgwood style. Constructed as a fluted torch shaft surrounded on both sides by a leaf tendril. From this a pair of curved candelabrum arms overlaid with foliage, ending in vegetal ornamented vase grommets with eaves bowls on one side, and bird-griffin heads on the other. Upper register with round, sky blue-round porcelain plaque bordered by garland and large flutter ribbon bow. Finished to top as virtual cloth hanging. Electrified with candle holders (these newer), minimally rubbed, h. 43 cm.
