The ”Serre-bijoux” cabinet of Marie Antoinette, copy 20th c. Mahogany, maple wood, stained, bronze gilded France, 20th c. One of 3 modern copies of Marie Antoinette’s jewel cabinet, designed by Jean Ferdinand Schwerdfeger (1734-1818) and Jean-Démosthène Dugourc (1749-1825) in 1787, 2-part structure over rectangular ground plan, corpus on slightly tapered legs with closed struts, box-shaped top, divided by three doors with corresponding shouldered aisles, four slightly protruding caryatids on the front, above slightly projecting cornice with curved gallery, crowned by a mythological figural scene, richly decorated all around with cross bands, garlands, floral applications and mythological representations, 283 x 237 x 60 cm.- The original is today Grande Chambre of Versailles, Lit.:David Linle, Extraordinary Furniture, 1996, p. 44 f.
