Focke, Wilhelm H. 1878 – Bremen – 1974. Horses in the pasture and in the water. 1911. ink pen drawing on tracing paper, unsigned, Hadré 1182, 26,5 x 33 cm, verso mounted at 3 corners on gray backing board, there dated a. inscribed 1911 Berlin Pferde a. Fockes fatherly friend Max Liebermann was enthusiastic about his horse paintings and sketches and is said to have said to him: ”Nee Focke, det kann ich nich!” And so, around 1908/10, Liebermann arranged Focke’s first exhibition of horse paintings, organized by Bruno and Paul Cassierer in Berlin, which was very successful.
