Petersen, K. Marine painter of the 19th century. Captain’s picture of the Hamburg full-rigged ship Undine. After 1851. oil/canvas mounted on presspahn, signed lower right K. Petersen, 44.5 x 62.5 cm, minimal retouching, verso photocopy of the mate’s patent of Carl Johann Ofterdinger, framed 52 x 69 cm.- Built by Rickmers, the Undine was launched in 1851 for the Hamburg company Wachsmuth & Krogmann. In 1853 she sailed to Australia with 150 emigrants on board. Under Captain Carl Johann Ofterdinger from 1863-66, she sailed between Europe to India, the East Indies and South America. In 1866 she was sold to Norway and stranded in Cuba in 1873. Pawlik, Von der Weser in die Welt, III, p. 220 f.
