Anonymous, Chinese marine painter of the 19th century. Captain’s picture of the barque Marie Bergänzt end of the 19th century. Oil/canvas, unsigned, 47 x 60 cm, framed 61.2 x 75.5 cm.- The barque was built in 1879 as the second largest and last of the large sailing ships at the shipyard of Jacob Kraeft in Barth. At that time, the town of Barth in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was the second largest Prussian shipping town in terms of the number of more than 200 ships and 18 shipping companies. For the Marie Berg, voyages are documented in 1882 between Cardiff-Singapore-Shanghai (Captain W.F. Mohr) and in 1883 between Shanghai-Surrabaya (Indonesia)-Leith (Captain H. Hindrichs). In 1897 she was sold to Gothenburg.
