Anonymous marine painter around 1900. Captain’s picture of the Hamburg barque Alice Marie. 1907. oil/painting cardboard, unsigned, lower right inscribed a. dated Hamb. Bark Alice Marie Capt. F. Ahrens. 1907, 30 x 49 cm, rubbed at edges, framed 57 x 76,5 cm.- Built in Belfast in 1893, she sailed for the Hamburg owner Edmund F. Troost between 1903-1907, before being sold to Claus Dreyer of Bremen in 1907 and henceforth operating under the new name H.C. Dreyer on Atlantic routes, among others. On her way from the Rio Grande to Mersey she was lost at sea in January 1910.
