Anonymous sacral painter of the 18th century after Paul Troger (1698 Welsberg/Monguelfo – Vienna 1762). Adoration of the child. The sleeping Christ child with a cross in his hands in a manger lined with straw with Mary lifting the cloth in which the child is wrapped, on the left side an adoring angel, above a cloud of winged putti heads. Oil/canvas, relined, unsigned, 95 x 75,5 cm, restored, fine craquelé, framed 112 x 92 cm.- The painting by the important Austrian baroque painter Troger is in the Budapest Szépmüvészeti Múzeum and is smaller than the present quality copy. Like the model, the painter is excellent at capturing the intimate connection of mother to child and the divine glow that seems to emanate from the child.
