Anonymous portraitist of the 18th century in the succession of William Aikman (1682 Cairnie/Forfarshire – 1731 London). Portrait of Robina Pollok Crawford (c. 1737-1820) in half-length figure in a tartan dress with blue shawl in painted oval before landscape view. After 1753. oil/canvas, unsigned, verso on stretcher old label partly illegible inscribed Crawford, as well as printed in large letters SG1KE, typographic label with information about the painting as well as the attribution to Aikman, 74.5 x 63 cm, minimally restored/retouched…, in original frame 87,5 x 75 cm.- Since 1753 wife of the Scottish baronet Sir Hew Crawford Pollok (1718-1794), Robina Pollok Crawford was the only representative of two of the oldest families in Scotland, the Lockharts and the Polloks, when she died in 1820 in her house on George Square in Glasgow.
