Lidded vase with lizard, Meissen, 21st c., 1st choice, unetn bulbous form merging into cylindrical neck, domed lid with spherical knob, around the neck plastically set lizard, peony shrub and butterflies in Unetrglasur blue, model no. 51322, h. 25 cm, remolded from an early Meissen Chinese-style vase designed circa 1725, listed as ”Eight pieces detto bouteilles blue and white with long necks and lids, on each bouteille an eydexe”. On July 13, 1726, eight, intended as fireside pieces, were delivered to the royal court of Augustus the Strong. Cf. exhibition cat. Meissen blue painting, Staatl.
