Nicolaus Friedrich (1865-1914), German sculptor who studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin and created decorations for the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893, in 1896 he won the Rome Prize of the Prussian Academy of Arts with a stay at the Villa Strohl-Fern in Rome, then he traveled to Italy, France and England. From 1897 to 1901 Friedrich became a master student of Reinhold Begas, stylistically oriented to him at first, but soon following Adolf von Hildebrand in his reorientation away from neo-baroque to greater rigor in style.
