Paul Dubois (1829-1905), French sculptor, studied at the École de Beaux Arts in Paris, from 1865 quickly became one of the most important sculptors of his time and received many commissions for portraits and monuments. His equestrian statue of Joan of Arc, first presented in 1889, caused a sensation. ”Harlequin”, large bronze, dark brown patina, signed, standing on a stage-like plinth, masked harlequin with shouldered lute. Imposing Comedia dell’Arte figure with meticulously fine surface treatment, h. 84 cm.
